Monday 5 October 2009

We celebrated the confirmation of five young people yesterday- Marcus, Alison, Jeaphony, Amanda and Joel Seow! Yay!! Congratulations to everyone =)! Personally, I was really blessed by the sermon delivered by Bishop JohnTan... it was powerful, inspiring and truly a word in season from the Lord. The call to return to our daily sanctuary is such an important discipline and practice in the Christian life that if we were to fail in this area, it has dire consequences on all other areas of our lives. So, once again, I'm reminded to be faithful, to learn 'a new word' a day and to listen to God speak.

After service, the older youth gathered for cell. We were mindful of Philippians 2:14-15 "Do everything without complaining or arguing. Then you will be innocent and without any wrong. You will be God's children without fault. But you are living with crooked and mean people all around you, among whom you shines like stars in the dark world." The cell had a meaningful and powerful moment as we affirmed one another to shine for Jesus in the darkness all around us. It was a heartwarming and touching moment as each cell member encouraged the person on their left how they were shining for God in their lives, and lighting up their candles as they passed the light on. At the end of this, we realised how beautiful it was when Christians shine together for God- it transforms and brightens up the whole world around them! May we all continue to SHINE brightly for Jesus in our lives!

Last, but not least, enjoy these macho shots of our soccer boys! YAY! If you want the soccer tee, volunteer at the Family Day next year =)

vision

The Joshua Connection youth aims to...

:: Love God with all our hearts, soul, mind and strength (Deut 6:5);
"Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength."

:: Love the body of Christ through fellowship, discipleship and service (1 Cor 12:27; Eph 4:11-13; Gal 5:13);
"Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” 1 Cor 12:27

"It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ." Eph 4:11-13

"You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love." Gal 5:13

:: Love others by sharing the gospel and our lives (Matt 5:14-16; 29:18-20).
"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." Matt 5:14-16

"Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matt 29:18-20
