It is that time of the year again when everyone scrambles to clear their revision (not necessarily their homework!) for the dreaded MYE! Yes, I am talking about the Mid Year Examinations.

Wait, won’t that mean I would be writing this article for no reason? Hmmm… On one hand that would be true, but I am going to trust God to use this article to speak to you even when you have completed the exams and are surfing this site for fun.

So exactly what is this article is going to be about? Let’s read on shall we?

Jeremiah 45:5 (New Living Translation)
“Are you seeking great things for yourself? Don’t do it! I will bring great disaster upon all these people; but I will give you your life as a reward wherever you go. I, the LORD, have spoken!”

Life as a Reward

Have you ever taught about it? Having your life as a reward. Or do you look at it as something your dread. Most of us are living our lives as students. The routine of school, tuition, homework, CCA etc… Not to mention the pressures of friends, peers, classmates, relationships etc… How can we ever consider our lives as a reward? On the other hand, some of us may be thinking if this title is really true. Life as a Reward? My life is a reward? What exactly have I done to deserve a reward from God?

In fact, our lives are such wonderful gifts from God. Imagine if one day God were to take it way from you. Then there would be nothing much right? Death ends it. Our life, the very breath that we breathe is indeed a gift from God. But a reward? A reward (according to the Cambridge Dictionary) is something given in exchange for good behaviour or good work. That basically means that this life we are living is a reward for something we have done. Or should I correct myself and say, a reward for something that God expects from us.

God is expecting us to totally surrender ourselves to Him. Abandoning all your decisions and plans to trusting God to tell you what to do and to lean on Him to give you all you need for the unknown future ahead. No questions asked. No queries. No doubts. No fears. Nothing.

Giving God the absolute control of our lives that He may bless us and give us the life – the reward. I quote from “My Utmost For His Highest”: ‘The reason people are tired of life is that God has not given them anything – they have not been give their life “as a prize”’. The reason why we are so bothered, tired, stressed out and just not enjoying life on earth is because God has not rewarded us. And it is only because He can’t. He is waiting for us to give our lives us that we may receive that reward of a life.

John 10:10b (New Living Translation)
“…My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life”.

Yes! There it is in black and white what God wants to give us. This is what He wants to reward us! It is a rich and satisfying life where we do not have to worry and feel that we never have enough. All we need to get that reward is to surrender and give our all to Him, without any limitations. No holds barred.

We only have 2 choices. To disobey and let that reward slip us by and return the life that we lead. OR we can choose to obey, surrender each and every part of our being to God and in return experience the true reward of life that He has promised.

It is up to you. What is your response?

vision

The Joshua Connection youth aims to...

:: Love God with all our hearts, soul, mind and strength (Deut 6:5);
"Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength."

:: Love the body of Christ through fellowship, discipleship and service (1 Cor 12:27; Eph 4:11-13; Gal 5:13);
"Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” 1 Cor 12:27

"It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ." Eph 4:11-13

"You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love." Gal 5:13

:: Love others by sharing the gospel and our lives (Matt 5:14-16; 29:18-20).
"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." Matt 5:14-16

"Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matt 29:18-20
